Sparked by Jorge Luis Borges’ Book of Imaginary Beings, my creative process was a study of animal characters in folklore throughout history. Inspired by these stories, I sketched imaginary animals, which then evolved into three-dimensional metal creatures.
I chose to deal with animals because, for me, they represent options. Options for
fulfillment, escape, and change. Multifaceted and unpredictable, animals aid us in understanding the world. They can be used to explain various natural phenomena. We can attribute them picturesque, eccentric qualities that we humans would not dare to associate with ourselves. And unlike real animals, which are also the heroes of many fables, imaginary animals and their abilities will never become extinct. As in the real world, evolution will work on them. Only this time, your own needs would guide it, and the choice of who to be when you are with them will always remain yours
